BMC also looked on the previous page, but unfortunately, we, the history of BMC's own website and so far from that range from the information I want to briefly.Citaat:
BMC, one of the biggest commercial vehicle producers in Turkey, was established in 1964 in Izmir. Austin and Morris vehicles were manufactured in BMc facilities during its early years. Beginning in 1966, BMC started growing and getting stronger day by day by adding truck, light truck, tractor and engine in its product line. The domestic capital rate grew yearly and in 1989 BMC became The Sole Turkish Commercial Vehicle Manufacturer with 100% Domestic Capital which was 74% in the beginning.
Playing an important role in the development of Turkish Automotive Industry, BMC has made a considerable contribution by accomplishing the production of the first diesel engines in Turkey, followed by the adaptation of diesel engines from gasoline engines in 1976. In addition to the production of complete vehicles, BMC started manufacturing industrial engines, generators, marine engines and military products, needed to support Turkey's fast growing industry.
Amongst BMC's achievements throughout the years was the release of Leyland 30 van to the market, which was the first light commercial vehicle in the Leyland series. In 1983, under The Volvo Truck Corporation partnership, BMC produced Yavuz series trucks, which were the first turbo engine commercial vehicles in Turkey in 1985, Yavuz was superseded by the Fatih range of trucks incorporating the new Cummins diesel engines. BMC had once again proved that it was ranked amongst the strongest commercial vehicle manufacturers in the world.
In 1989, a new growth strategy was determined after all the shares of the company had been acquired by Çukurova Holding, the biggest conglomerate of Turkey today. Consequently, BMC signed a co-operation agreement in 1990 with the pre-eminent Italian design house Pininfarina, the objective being to create a wholly domestic, purpose-built, unique cab. As a result of 6 years of intensive work and the investment of 120 million USD, BMC introduced the new Professional Range of trucks to the market in January 1997. The Professional series enabled BMC to be internationally recognized, providing a world-wide prestige to the Turkish Automotive industry.
As part of its continuous investments, BMC covering all engineering studies, has created Megastar by a 40 million USD investment in 2004. Megastar the result of 74 engineers and 159 technical staff’s 5 years hardworking studies, overcame all security and efficiency tests and trials. Megastar, with its high technology and modern design turns over a new page in commercial vehicle market with its 19 different models including vans, combi vans, minibuses and minibuses which meets all the requirements of the sector.
Continuing to operate under the structure of Çukurova Holding, employing 34350 staff in 144 companies currently active in the sectors of, industry, construction, communication, information technologies, media, transportation and financial services, BMC is the only Turkish automotive corporation that is carrying out its own product design, development and engineering studies without relying upon any foreign companies.
